Falling Into Place

Jesse Seward always dreamed of being in the entertainment/multimedia industry. Since a young age, he could be found playing with computers and video cameras, rather than riding bikes and playing sports. He was even in certain classes in middle school that helped further his knowledge in these areas. At Stevens Middle School, he was the star of a self-named segment on the Stevens News Network titled, The Jesse Report. However, Jesse had a bit of a rough go at life after starting high school. He then went on to give up on his dreams and shortly thereafter had what some would refer to as a checkered past.

As an adult, Jesse landed a job working at a semi-truck shop as a washer and mechanic. It was while doing this that he decided he wanted to become a truck driver and obtained his commercial driver’s license. After getting a little bit of experience behind the wheel, Jesse pursued employment with a well-known trucking company in the Port Angeles area, Hermann Brothers Logging & Construction. Jesse enjoyed working there and driving for them. After a few years of doing so, he started to wonder what would have happened if he would have pursued his dreams in media and the arts? He developed quite the hobby on the side of creating funny content on his online social media accounts.

As time passed, Jesse became very tired of being a truck driver. It just wasn’t for him. He didn’t want to spend the rest of his life working crazy, long hours, and staying out overnight all week. One day something clicked in Jesse’s head. He took a look around at the company he currently drove truck for and realized that something was missing. It was a relatively small company when he first started working there, but had rapidly grown and expanded. Jesse saw an opportunity. He approached his manager and pointed out that there were a few things missing from the growing company. Things that he could bring to the table. Things that would potentially get him out of a truck and into an office position, doing what he loved.

Having that talk with his boss was one of the best decisions he ever made. Today, he is not just a truck driver for Hermann Brothers. Today, he is a training video developer, web designer, social media manager, and graphic ad designer for Hermann Brothers. Instead of getting paid to hold a steering wheel, he is getting paid to do what he loves. His employer was so impressed with his basic self-taught skills in these areas, that he agreed to send Jesse to college to obtain a degree in multimedia communications and further his skills and abilities even more. Everything has begun falling into place for Jesse.

Now, Jesse has completed two courses along the pathway to his AAS degree in the Multimedia Communications program at PC. He has created a personal blog site using WordPress, gained an arsenal of tools in social media marketing, and refined his video editing skills thanks to Professor Brock’s Intro to Digital Video class. This is only the beginning for Jesse.
