Universal Design Principle 7 is all about making sure things are accessible to everyone no matter their body size, posture, mobility, use of assistive technology, or need for personal assistance. It is important that everyone is able to successfully function in society. UD 7 helps with the everyday tasks such as moving through a doorway or turning on the stove. Size and space for approach and use make us look at what is needed for everyone to be able to function. For example doorways need to be a certain size so that people in wheelchair are able to comfortably move through them.

Guidelines:

  1. Provide a clear line of sight to important elements for any seated or standing user.
  2. Make reach to all components comfortable for any seated or standing user.
  3. Accommodate variations in hand and grip size.
  4. Provide adequate space for the use of assistive devices or personal assistance.
